Figures and records carry a thin rule on their left edge. It encodes where the value came from.
Solid — archive fact
Returned by an archive as stored. It may differ from Reddit's current content, and a score may have changed since capture, but Subdex did not compute it.
Dashed — calculated here
Computed in your browser from the records loaded. Subreddit counts, medians, timelines and term frequencies are all calculated, and all describe the loaded set.
Dotted — incomplete coverage
Coverage is known to be incomplete: a request failed, or you stopped loading. When a search is partial, every metric is marked this way rather than only the affected ones — the incompleteness applies to all of them.
Why this rather than a warning banner
A banner is read once and dismissed. A rule sits next to the number for as long as the number is on screen. The distinction between what an archive said and what software calculated is the one most likely to be lost when a figure is quoted elsewhere.
