Privacy policy

Subdex has no accounts, no server-side database and no analytics. This page explains what that does and does not protect.

Subdex itself does not maintain a search-history database. Queries are sent directly from your browser to the selected public archive provider.

That distinction matters, so it is worth being blunt about it: your searches do leave your device. They have to. The archive lives on somebody else’s server, and your browser has to ask it a question. What does not happen is Subdex recording the question.

What stays on your device

  • Every search result, once retrieved. Filtering, aggregation, charts, keyword analysis and exports all run in your browser.
  • Saved research projects, bookmarks, collections and notes, stored in IndexedDB.
  • Preferences such as theme and result density, stored in LocalStorage.
  • Recent searches, but only if you turn that preference on. It is off by default.

What is sent to archive providers

When you run a search, your browser makes a request to the archive provider you have selected. That request contains the query itself, including any username you searched for, and reaches the provider with your IP address as any web request would.

Those providers are independent services with their own policies and their own logs. Subdex does not control what they retain. They are listed on the sources page.

What Subdex does not do

  • No accounts, so nothing is tied to an identity.
  • No analytics or telemetry, so no query content is reported anywhere.
  • No error monitoring that could capture a searched username in a stack trace.
  • No searched username in page titles, URLs or referrer strings.
  • No advertising and no third-party trackers.

Hosting logs

The site is served as static files. The host may keep ordinary technical logs of file requests, as any web host does. Those logs record page requests, not the searches you run, because searches never reach our host.

Removing your data

The privacy center shows everything stored in this browser and lets you delete any part of it. Clearing your browser data has the same effect. There is nothing on a server for us to delete on your behalf.

If you want your own Reddit content removed from an archive, that request goes to the archive operator, not to us. Subdex holds no copy of it.
